Coal properties (moisture and ash yield)

ERC conducts coal property tests to determine moisture content and ash yield. These two tests are an integral part of adsorption isotherm testing. ERC measures the moisture in coal as moisture strongly affects adsorption and its analysis is essential to properly assess the adsorption. Ash yield, combined with moisture content, provides the ability to calculate the adsorption to a dry ash-free (DAF) basis. The DAF basis is used to directly compare organic matter characteristics between samples. Results are reported to industry best practise in standard reports. In most cases coal petrography is carried out in conjunction with the coal property test work.
